Walter J. Ott, 78, of Chillicothe, died 7:30 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born October 3, 1934, in Chillicothe, to the late Walter J. and Mary E. Enderle Ott. On June 11, 1960, he married the former Sharon Hafer who survives.
Also surviving are sons, Timothy J. Ott and David L. (Susan) Ott, both of Chillicothe; a granddaughter, Jessica L. Ott; a brother, Lemuel (Kay) Ott, of Chillicothe; sisters, Suzanne Herold, of Reynoldsburg, Janet Ott, of Dublin, Mary Ann (Terry Wyatt) Dixon, of Little Hocking and Barbara (Isadore “Izzy”) Fleischer, of Ashburn, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Wilbur “Pee Wee” Hafer, Larry Dixon and William Herold and by father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Opal Hafer.
Walter served in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Mead Corporation where he had worked for over 40 years. Walter had worked for the Ross County Auditor as a Weights and Measures Inspector. He was a member of U.P.U.I. Local 731 and a life-long member of Saint Peter Church and was very involved with Boy Scouts for many years. Walter was a Scout Master and member of the Order of the Arrow.
Walter will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He was the perfect example of all that is good.
Mass of Christian burial will be offered 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in St. Peter Church with Fr. William P. Hahn Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the WARE FUNERAL HOME where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
