William E. Gothard, 76, of Circleville, peacefully passed away while surrounded by his family and friends at his home following an extended illness. He passed on his birthday but is reborn again in heaven with his Lord.
He was born March 3, 1937, in Carroll, Ohio, to the late Ellis E. and Neva Lucille White Gothard. On October 12, 1987, he married the former Brenda J. Sheetz who survives.
Also surviving are children, Tina Gothard, of Lancaster, David (Paula) Butcher, of Rapid City, SD and Twila (Jeffrey) Walters, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Timothy Beer, Thomas Shahan, Korey Walters and Katherine Walters; a brother, Bill (Linda) Newlen, of Cedar Rapids, IA; a sister, Nancy (Beale) Hayhurst, of Worthington; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Billy Lynn Gothard and a sister, Phyllis Gothard.
William served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Partners with John Hagee Ministries. William retired from the Kroger Co. where he had worked for 41 years. He was a member of Scioto Lodge #6 F&AM for 26 years and O.E.S. Chapter 419.
William loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR and entertaining family and friends with his stories and jokes. He was well known for his cornhole tournaments.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME, Chillicothe, Ohio, with Rev. Karen K. Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore, Ohio where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may call at Ware’s from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m.
