Harold “Rod” Chapman, 81, of Richmond Dale, died 7:35 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 in Heartland of Chillicothe following an extended illness. He was born September 26, 1928, in Garrison, Kentucky to James and Mable Griffin Chapman. On June 10, 1950, he married the former Viola L. “Lola” Lewis, who died December 14, 2003. Surviving are a daughter, Gail (Dan) Reichelderfer, of Chillicothe; sisters, Faye Cartee Mayhew, of Liberty, MO and Sue (Orland) Cartee Snyder, of Chillicothe; half brothers, Karl (Irene) Chapman and Keith (Lisa) Chapman; half sisters, Karrol (James) Hasler, Rita (Darrel) Harrison and Bernadine (Rodney) Frye, all of Kentucky; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Barney Hurles, of Richmond Dale. He was predeceased by his father, James Chapman; mother, Mabel Cartee; step father, Charles R. Cartee, by whom he was raised; a brother, Kenneth Cartee; and sister-in-law, Dolores Cartee. Harold was a member of the Richmond Dale United Methodist Church, Scioto Lodge #6 F&AM, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Shriners of Columbus and the Ross County Humane Society. In 1989, he retired from the Ross County Engineer’s Office and was the former owner and operator of Wagner’s Tavern. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in the Richmond Dale United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Dowson officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery.
