Betty Jo Cochenour 96, of Chillicothe, died 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2026 at her daughter Peggy's residence following complications from a fall.
She was born on March 27, 1930, in Ross County, to the late Joseph and Florence (Stuart) Cockrell. Betty was adopted and raised by her grandparents, Julius and Clara (Baltzer) Stuart. On August 11, 1951, she married George Oney who died December 19, 1960 and on June 22, 1964, she married James Cochenour who died November 1, 1986.
Surviving are children, Rebecca (Ellis) Shoemaker, Donald Oney, Peggy Minney, and James "Rusty" Cochenour II; grandchildren, Kevin Oney, Jaime (Tanner Pritchard) Shoemaker, Jason (Kapri) Shoemaker, Crystal Blain, Kylie Cochenour, Katie (Zach Seidle) Cochenour, and Breeann Minney; great grandchildren, Jade (Andrew Hill) Oney, Mark (Haley Colburn) Goldsberry, Bryant Shoemaker, Kason Shoemaker, Keely Shoemaker, and Italy Blain; great-great grandchildren, Dexter Huffman, Ruby Huffman, Asher Hill, Amelia Goldsberry, and baby Hill due in October. Betty was predeceased by a son, Larry Cochenour, son-in-law, Larry Minney, and a sister, Doris McCann.
Betty's greatest joy in life was her family and spending time with them. Her passion in life was traveling. She had visited all 50 states (of which Alaska was her favorite) and had taken around 500 trips with Noble Tours. She also enjoyed square dancing, puzzles, and reading. She never met a stranger. Betty graduated in 1947 from Huntington High School and had been employed at Huntington School Cafeteria and Huntsmen Market.
The family would like to give special thanks to Kylie, Nancy and the Adena Hospice staff for all your care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 5-7 on Friday, June 26, 2026.
