Obituary

Charles Martin "Chip" Kinsel, age 90, was peacefully called home to the Lord on September 5, 2024 in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born February 4, 1934, to Ralph M. Kinsel and Dorothy M. Kinsel in Hamden, Ohio. He spent his childhood in Hamden before marrying Nell M. Kinsel (Kirk) in October of 1954. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the United States Army and deployed to Korea in September of 1955. Upon return from Korea in 1957, Chip and Nell planted their roots in Chillicothe, Ohio where they would reside for the next 63 years raising their two sons, Charles B. Kinsel and Michael S. Kinsel.

Chip would go on to work with B&O Railroad before retiring from CSX Railroad as a Freight Conductor after 41 years of service. Chip was a believer in Christ, loving husband, father, and an avid sportsman who spent many years in the field teaching and mentoring his sons and grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Kinsel; sisters, Barbara Eberts (Kinsel) of Hamden, OH and Jane Allison (Kinsel) of Hamden, OH; son Michael (Melinda) Kinsel of Lexington, KY; grandsons, Ryan (Katie) Kinsel of Paris, KY, and Andrew (Megan) Kinsel of Georgetown, KY. He is also survived by four great grandchildren who affectionately knew him as Pap.

Chip is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Dorothy Kinsel and his son, Charles B. Kinsel.

This October would have marked 70 years of marriage for Chip and Nell. Their marriage served to glorify God and is a lasting example of the true gift of matrimony.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2024 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Therese Lehman officiating.  Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe, Ohio where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard.  Visitation for family and friends will be held in the WARE FUNERAL HOME one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to: Andover First United Methodist Church, 3801 Polo Club Boulevard, Lexington, Kentucky 40509.
