Donald N.
Proehl
d. Jun 19, 2026
Donald N. Proehl, 90, entered Jesus' presence on June 19, 2026 at his home. Don was born August 3, 1935, in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was the son of Wilbur and Mabel (Gire) Proehl. On December 7, 1958, he married the love of his life, Ginny Kern. They were blessed with three children, Mark (Laine) Proehl, Scott (Cindy) Proehl, and Cindy (Pete) Preston; six grandchildren, Eric (Kasey) Proehl, Megan (Brendan) Costilow, Jessie (Josh) Hambrick, Gabe (Samatha – fiancée) Preston, Austin Proehl, Eli (Kyndal) Preston; six great grandchildren, Kathleen, Luke, Marty, Lily, Aria and Kaden; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Norma Jean Shisler and sisters-in-law, Marilyn, Gail, and Denise Kern. Don was predeceased by his parents and wife.
Don graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1954, where he lived and breathed sports. He held positions of quarterback, forward and pitcher. His love of sports continued throughout his life, whether watching or participating, later picking up the game of golf. He loved sports!
Don loved Jesus, family time, a good laugh, playing euchre, roller coasters (up into his 80s) and a good cup of coffee.
We will miss him greatly but take comfort in knowing he is in the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ, and dancing with Ginny. We take comfort in Matthew 11:28.
Don and the family are grateful for the exceptional care of his hospice team, John, Mallory, Carrie, Morgan and Susan. Also, we are grateful for the care and support from special friends, Dr. John Seidensticker, Bill Seidensticker and Chip Walder. All were the hands and feet of Jesus.
There will be a celebration of Life for Don on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 12 p.m. at Brookside Church's Porter Center with Dr. Ralph Hux officiating. We welcome family and friends, lunch will be provided.
A private graveside service will be held for family. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brookside Church 2215 Egypt Pike Chillicothe, OH 45601.
