Ernie A. Skaggs, 83, of Chillicothe, passed 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at his daughter's home following an extended illness.

He was born August 10, 1940, in Ross County, to the late Landon and Reba Messer Skaggs.  On April 28, 1958 he married Ruth M. Vandemark, who preceded him on January 3, 2023.

Surviving are daughter, Kelley (Stephen R.) Park, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Katrina (Ray) Watson, Stephen (Erica) Park, Amanda (Bruce) Hartley and Sydney (Josh) Cooksey; great grandchildren, Ranger, Avery and Emerson Park, and Maddisyn & Jaxson Beedy; sisters, Linda Basye and Lorrie Skaggs, both of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Sue Montgomery, of Waverly and Janet Strawser, of Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sons, Kyle R., Kendall R. and Kevin R. Skaggs; sisters, Betty Gillum and Cheryl Rucker; brother, Ferris "Buck" Skaggs.

Ernie retired from the Mead Corporation and  was a member of UPIU Local 731.  He enjoyed golfing and sitting on his porch to watch storms.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024 at WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Rick Hartley officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends and family may call from 2 – 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Green Barn, 976 Rozelle Creek Rd., Chillicothe, Ohio, following the burial.
