Gary L. Rigsby, 70, of Chillicothe, passed 12:19 a.m. Sunday, August 20, 2023 at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born July 24, 1953, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Floyd and Effie Jane Eggers Rigsby.  On January 2, 1987, he married the former Mickie Hardesty who survives.

Also surviving are children, Gary Lee Rigsby, Jr., of Chillicothe, Heather (Dave) Sheetz, of Piketon and Tara (Adam) Jones, of Laurelville; grandchildren, Jarek and Owen Sheetz and Ashley Jones; a sister, Kathy (Walter) Hammond, of Savannah, GA; and a niece, Tracey Downey, of Columbus.  He was predeceased by sisters, Carolyn White and Kim Rigsby; a brother, Michael Rigsby; and an infant sister, Mary Ellen.

Gary retired from the Ohio Department of Corrections, Chillicothe Institution as a Captain in 2003 with 32 years of service.  After retirement, Gary spent his days restoring vehicles, self-taught himself to paint gorgeous paintings, made jewelry and traveled with his wife, Mickie, to their favorite places, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, TN.  Gary was especially proud of his grandchildren, and loved his sweet Yorkie, Parker.  Gary was the best husband, dad, grandad and friend.

A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in Grandview Cemetery with Minister Chuck Horsley officiating.  Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 12:30 to 2:30 prior to the graveside service on Tuesday.
