Harvey M. Bowling, 78, of Chillicothe, passed 2:57 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2023 at his home following a brief illness.
He was born March 26, 1945 in Ross County to the late Eric and Mattie (Ison) Bowling. On November 29, 1967, he married the love of his life, the former Rebecca J. Mettler, who passed on October 28, 1999.
Surviving are daughters, Suzie (Jean) Bowling, of Greenfield, Karey (Mike) White, of Columbus and Rena Bowling, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Stacie Williams, Jessica (Nick Kinsel) Bowling, Kimberly (Travis) Carter, Jackson Woodruff and Kirsten (Brandon Gundrum) Kane; great grandchildren, Annaleigh, Remmington, Adrianne, Danielle, Rebecca, Elijah, Zeke, Kailee, Serenity, Ryleigh, and one due to be born in November, Caine Harvey Allen Carter; a sister, Esther (Don) Skaggs, of Chillicothe; several nephews and nieces, including special nephew, Eric Bowling; and many friends, including Johnny Wolfe and Dale Bennett. He was predeceased by brothers, Ballard Bowling and Burl Bowling; sisters, Dazel Eblin and Dora Aldridge; 5 infant siblings; 3 half brothers; and a half sister.
Harvey proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the V.A. Medical Center. Harvey was a former member of the VFW Post 108 and American Legion Post 62. Even though he was stubborn, he was an amazing brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Harvey made an impact on the lives of his family and friends and he will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Mark Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard and Taps will be played by his "favorite" grandson. Private calling hours will be held for his immediate family only.
