Herbert I. Zickafoos, 94, of Frankfort died Saturday, December 23, 2023 at his residence and has gone to be with his God in heaven above.
He was born September 18, 1929 in Chillicothe to the late John W. and Grace (Dennewitz) Zickafoos. On October 14, 1995 he married the former Naomi R. (Boltenhouse) Wolford, who died September 13 ,2022.
Surviving is a son, Scott E. (Yuki) Zickafoos, of Japan; grandson, Jeremiah P. Zickafoos, of Chillicothe; granddaughter, Victoria M. Heldenbrand, of Texas; sister, Rozetta I. Bivins, of Westminster, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara J. (Harold) Bradbury; sister-in-law, Vonni Zickafoos; niece, Roxann (Andy) Duncan; nephews, Dwight (Beth) Fowler, Denny (Tracy) Fowler; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. Herbert was loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Heather L. Daniels; a son, Shaun M. Zickafoos; a brother, John H. Zickafoos, a sister and brother-in-law, Kathaleen (Harry) Fowler; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Bivens.
Herbert was a 1948 graduate of Chillicothe Highschool and a 1954 graduate of Ohio University. He worked as an engineer for 8 years for Barrett Cargo and Withers and 32 years for the Ohio Department of Transportation retiring 1996. He served in the United States Air Force as a 1st LT. for 2 years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Greenland. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Chillicothe Lions Club and OSPE, Southern Ohio Chapter.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, December 30, 2023 with Pastor Dan Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Also, a Lion's service will be held prior to the start of the funeral service.
