John R. Cox, 61, of Chillicothe, passed at 12:03 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 2026 in the Adena Regional Medical Center unexpectedly.

He was born May 8, 1965, in San Diego, CA, to the late Alden Willard and Carol Ann McKinney Cox.

Surviving are the love of his life, Mary Ann Shope; a brother, Radon Cox; sisters, Lyrae Cox and Lillian Cox; a special friend, whom he considered a sister, Crystal Smith (Dennis, deceased) and her family, Mathew (Keah) Smith, Cameron Smith and Hunter Smith; nephews, Jacob Cox, James Cox and Sean Alan (Jackie Wilson) Skaggs; and great nieces, Caitlyn Nixon, Lauryn (Gabe) Leonard, Trinity Wilson and Carley Wilson; great great nephew, Xavier Leonard.

John worked for Sunrush Construction.  A job that he truly loved to do every day.  He loved animals, especially his dogs, Rubi and Rokko and his many cats.  John had a huge heart and would help anyone whenever he could.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public service.  Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
