Larry Dale “Skip” Speakman, 83, of Chillicothe, passed from this life at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026 in the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born July 20, 1943, in Chillicothe, to the late Thurman and Helen Nier Speakman.

Surviving are children, Tracey (Doug) Mitten, of Hallsville, OH, Christopher (Suzy) Speakman, of Tooele, UT, Michele (John) Fitzpatrick, Angela (Chad) Zeisler, Timothy Speakman, Lynnette (Steve) Skeens, all of Chillicothe, Larry Douglas (Sheila) Speakman and Denise Speakman, both of Circleville, OH; grandchildren, Tyler (Mackenzie) Mitten, Briley Mitten, Arthur Burton (Bree), Chris (Candice) Speakman, Jr., Blake Speakman, Haley Speakman (Dallon King), Whitney Speakman (Eric Nail), Brandon Fitzpatrick (Sierra Wogomon), Christian Curtis, Arielle (Jacob) Ratcliff, Jordan (Brandon) Johnson, Mykal Austin, Taryn Austin, Jayonna Badger, Olivia Badger, Sydney Dyke, Mackenzie (Bryce) Rinehart, Jaxon Skeens, Felicia Speakman, Tiffany Speakman, Corey Robinson, Devin Robinson, and Skylar Robinson; great grandchildren, Adalynn, Rhyan, Kaige, McKinlynn, Liam, Lily, Lennox, Camden, AJ, Ariel, Maisie, Bailey, Braxtyn, Adam, Kathryn, Liam Jude, Artemis, Arabella, Nolan, Avery, Lynnex, Asher, Tatum, Islah, Christina, and Wesley; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Brian D. Speakman; a daughter, Melissa D. Speakman, and a daughter-in-law, Tamara Speakman; sisters, Eileen Felts and Vicky Gillman; and brothers, Thurman and Charles Speakman and George Manson.

Larry retired from ODOT, having several job titles over the years. He had a love of cars, especially fast ones. He started tinkering and working on cars when he was a teenager, and continued doing mechanic work in his spare time for family and friends for the majority of his life. He was a fan of NASCAR, and his all time favorite was Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed watching “Westerns”. He had a great love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A public graveside service, for family and friends, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2026 in Londonderry Cemetery with Pastor Bruce Hines officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
