Nancy Kay Porter, 92, of Chillicothe, OH, was called home to heaven August 20, 2026.
She was born on June 18, 1934, in Greenfield, Ohio, the first-born child of Richard Naylor and Frances Alma (Smith) Cook.
Nancy graduated from McClain High School (Greenfield, OH) in 1952. After graduation, she worked as a secretary in the Wilknet Hosiery Mill in Greenfield. In 1954, she married Don Curtis Porter, and they moved to Chillicothe to begin their 70-year marriage journey.
Nancy was a member of the Springbank United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in events and activities alongside her Springbank friends. She volunteered at the Chillicothe Hospital as a "Pink Lady." In addition to being a household engineer and economist raising 2 children, she babysat for the children of friends and neighbors as well as worked as a home companion for senior citizens in her area. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes as well as sewing, crafting, and camping. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and "CHS Band Mom" and supporter of the Chillicothe High School (CHS) Marching Band from 1978 to 1983 working in the concession stand and travelling for competition shows.
Those who knew her have fond memories of Nancy's kitchen, sitting at her table to enjoy coffee, whatever she was cooking or baking and a visit as she was a compassionate listener. She was enthusiastic about "keeping in touch" and was always writing letters and making phone calls to the people she cherished.
Remaining to cherish Nancy's memory are her sister, Carol F. Wobser (Cincinnati, OH); children Sara Winters and her husband David (Powell, OH), son Darren Porter and his wife Carol Lewis Webb (Springfield, OH); grandsons Jack Hemphill (Hilliard, OH), Caleb Porter (Columbus, OH) and Alexander Webb (Springfield, OH) as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, cherished friends and neighbors.
Preceding Nancy in death are her husband Don C. Porter and sister Joyce E. Amyx (Greenfield, OH) and dear friends June Hickle, Marcella Johnson, Phyllis Garrison, and Linda Hartley.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 29, 10AM at Ware Funeral Home, 121 West 2nd Street, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601, followed by a short Funeral/Memorial service at 11AM, with Pastor Scott Wise officiating.
