Paul Douglas Thacker, 64, of Stem, NC passed at 4:56 pm EST on Thursday, August 7th, 2025, at Duke University Medical Center following extended illness.
He was born February 12th, 1961, in Chillicothe, OH, to the late James W. and Patricia A. Howard Thacker. He was predeceased by Susan L. Stauffer Thacker, whom he was married to on May 31st, 1980, and she passed on December 13th, 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia L. Beaver Thacker, whom he married on June 24th, 1991. Surviving also, are daughters, Jacqulynn (spouse Brian) Ramsey, of Butner, NC, and Mary (spouse Jason) Morgan, of Graham, NC. Amanda (spouse Doug) Miller, and James "Doug" Oakley. Also surviving is his sister, Dawna Thacker, of Greenfield, OH. Predeceased by brother Randy Thacker (brother), Rhonda Schrake (sister), Joseph "Joey" Oakley and Pamela Oakley (children).
Grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Christopher Whitfield, Jenna Valentine, Shawn Valentine, Brandon Valentine, Mackenzie Miller, Elizabeth Miller, Jada Ramsey, Seth (spouse Aylin) Ramsey, Emily (spouse Lur) Ramsey Lwe, Savannah Morgan, Alexis Whitfield, Hailey Whitfield, and Kayla Whitfield, and several nieces and nephews and extended family of love and blood.
Paul worked as a long-haul truck driver for the last 27 years, prior to retiring early last year. He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 0161 in Creedmoor, NC.
He was a high school football and track and field star at Southeastern High School.
Paul was known for his kind and generous heart, never meeting a stranger, ability to hold long conversations, a lover of history, and always ready with a "dad joke" that even if it didn't make you laugh, he still would laugh at it.
There will be no public services. A private burial will be held in Londonderry Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
