Obituary

Rebecca Lynn Hewitt, 68, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones following a 2 year battle with lung cancer.

She was born April 7, 1958, in Chillicothe, to the late Donald T. "Tuffy" and Margaret A. (Michaels) Hayburn.  On October 4, 1975, she married Thomas L. Hewitt, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by their children: Michael (Stephanie) Hewitt, of Liberty Township, OH, Kara (Shawn) Knight, of Chillicothe, Cynthia Hewitt, of Chillicothe, Joshua (Ruby) Hewitt, of Scott Depot, WV and Jacinta (Jeremy) Ramsey, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Shawn (Morgan) Knight, Karis (Liam) Kerr, Jospeh Lyons, Jaylynn Vinings, Amaris Lyons, Alysa Hewitt, Conner Vinings, Slade Knight, Brandon Hewitt, Lance Hewitt, Westyn Vinings, and Anna Redman; step grandchildren, Sheppard Lewis and Alise Lewis; sisters, Theresa (Dan) DePugh, Ann (Donald) Hawk; brothers, Donald Hayburn, II and Nicholas (Angie) Hayburn; sisters-in-law, Bobbie (Scott) LaGard, Theresa (Wesley) Damron, Tinna Hewitt, of Dayton, Tammy (Scott) Willbanks; and a brother-in-law, Scott Hewitt, of Long Beach, CA; along with several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jeffrey Hayburn, father-in-law, Thomas J. Hewitt, mother-in-law, Judith Caplinger, brother-in-law, Chester Hewitt, sister-in-law, Lisa Hewitt and a nephew, Travis Hayburn.

Rebecca retired from Adena Health System after 25 years of service.  She also had served as an EMT on the Springfield and Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Departments.  Rebecca enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, working in her greenhouse, herbalism, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She was a devoted Catholic and a member of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Parish.  Rebecca helped organize the yearly Rosary March and volunteered for St. Peter's Catholic Church Bereavement Committee.  Lastly, she loved taking care of her two beloved dogs, Ashton and Addy.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Adena Hospice.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2026 in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Stanislaus John, Celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery.  There will be a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church prior to the Mass on Friday.  There will be no public calling hours per her request.
