Obituary

Robert Wiley “Bobby” Turpen, 70, of Englewood, Florida, passed away on July 25, 2026.

He was born February 2, 1956, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late Charles W. Turpen, Jr. and Barbara M. (Madru) Turpen.

Robert will be remembered for his unique personality, his love of the Ohio State Buckeyes, his appreciation for good food, and the special bond he shared with his beloved cat, Tiggy. He loved fishing at Lake Erie and Paint Creek and enjoyed walking through the city park in his hometown of Chillicothe, where he was a familiar and well-known presence to many. Robert's friendly nature and distinctive personality made him someone people remembered, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sister, Melissa (Raul) Corona; sister-in-law, Becky Turpen; nephew, Raul (Laarnie) Corona and their children, Anastazia and Azhtryd Corona; niece, Angelina Tyree and her children, Hailey and Alexa Tyree; aunt, Linda (Roger) Gray; uncle, David (Barbara) Madru; and several cousins, including Danny (Creta) Corrigan, K. Theresa DePugh, Dennis DePugh, Judy Madru, and Jenny (Pat) Miller, as well as John (Joyce) Turpen, Pamela (Jeff) Stanley, Caroline Lacheney, Kathryn (Jim) Calain, and Marcia (Rob) Tyler.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt acknowledgment to K. Theresa DePugh and his sister, Melissa Corona, for the loving care and kindness they showed Robert, including making sure he had a home-cooked lunch and companionship each day. Their generosity, thoughtfulness, and dedication meant so much to Robert and the family and will always be remembered with gratitude.

Robert also leaves behind lifelong friends, Greg Baum, Terry Peterson, and Doug Barrows, whom he had known since childhood. To his friends, Robert was affectionately known as “Duke,” a nickname that reflected the special place he held in the lives of those who knew him best. Their enduring friendships and the many memories they shared over the years were a meaningful part of Robert's life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. Turpen, Jr. and Barbara M. (Madru) Turpen; his brother, Charles B. Turpen; his paternal grandparents, Charles and Lucy (Dixon) Turpen; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Nancy (Travis) Madru; his uncles, William (Ruth) Turpen, Charles B. Madru Jr., and Stephen Madru; and his aunt, Patricia (Michael) DePugh.
