Sandra L. Claytor, 81, of Chillicothe, passed peacefully 8:51 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at her residence surrounded by family and friends following a short illness.

She was born May 21, 1941 in Ross County to the late Roy and Mae (Nokes) Thacker. On December 16, 1962 she married her sweetheart Clifford C. Claytor who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Lisha Boyer of Columbus; sons, Clifford R. Claytor, Glen Claytor, and Tim Claytor, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren Jennifer Blake and fiancé Derrick Dumont, Drew Salyer, Shane (Alexis) Boyer; great grandchildren, Isaac Blake, Westley Blake, Hadley Salyer, Greyson Salyer; a brother Paul T. (Shirley) Thacker, of Chillicothe; special family friend, Martha Potts, of Chillicothe, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, James and Roy Jr. Thacker.

Sandra was a member of the Richmond Dale Baptist Church and Southeastern High School class of 1959.  Sandra's greatest joys were spending time with family and traveling.  During their more than 60 years of life together, they traveled to all 48 states of the contiguous U.S., Canada, and Mexico, but she especially loved the mountains of Colorado.  She was an excellent seamstress.  In the early years of raising her family, she made her family's clothing to save money, and also used her skills to make money by sewing for others.  In the mid-70s, she and Clifford built their 4 bedroom, 4 level, split -level forever home together, just the two of them, from bulldozing and pouring the floor for the basement, laying the block walls, electrical work and plumbing, to the shingles on the roof, hammering each nail by hand.  She could spend hours sharing stories and history of family.  Sandra enjoyed her antiques and collectibles that ranged from dolls, glassware, books, records and figurines, to Hot Wheels and base ball cards.  God and her church family were important to Sandra.  She raised her children up in church with love, good morals and values, hoping they would not need to return home, but knowing her arms, and home, were open if they ever needed to.

Sandra will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023 in the Richmond Dale Baptist Church with Pastor William Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Sigler Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
