Bernard Warner Bethel passed away on December 11, 2025 after a brief illness at the age of 97. He was born on August 25, 1928, to the late Ora and Mary (Trego) Bethel. On October 30, 1948, he married the love of his life, Norma Jean Gragg, who preceded him in death on August 2, 2019.
He is survived by his children, Keith Bethel, Connie Page, Denice Bethel, and Lynette Bethel; grandchildren, Michael (Anna) Maloy, Lorry Shaw, Kevin Oney, Crystal Blain, Eric Bethel, Brianna (Evan Corzine) Bethel, Geoffrey Reed, Justin Reed, and John Bernard Page; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and his friend Jim River.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Bethel; his daughter-in-law, Mary (Annon) Bethel; his sister, Geraldine Ison; and his brothers, Alvin and Donald Bethel.
Bernard retired from the Mead Corporation Research Department. For over 70 years, he was a fixture in the local music scene, playing classic country music and calling square dances at area clubs and senior centers. He will be remembered for his lifelong passion for playing the guitar and the joy he brought to others through his love of entertaining.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2025 at the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery. Following the committal service, a reception will be held at Liberty Hill Christian Union Church. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
