Bernice Shackleford

    Bernice Shackleford, 80, of Chillicothe, passed 7:05 a.m. Sunday, August 11, 2024 at her residence following a brief illness.

     She was born May 23, 1944 in Greenfield, Ohio to the late John and Violet Howland Cottrell.  On March 9, 1961 she married Lonnie Shackleford who survives.

     Also surviving are children, Lonnie (Teresa) Shackleford, Tony (Verna) Shackleford, Kelly (Renee) Shackleford, Creston (Shelly Hettinger) Shackleford, Corenna Shackleford and Zola (Richard) Parker, all of Chillicothe; sister, Donna Price; brothers, Gary Cottrell and Vernon Cottrell, all of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; 2 great  great grandchildren; 12 siblings. She was predeceased by 1 grandchild, 2 great grandchildren,  4 sisters and 3 brothers.

     Bernice was a wife, mother and homemaker for her family.  She formerly attended Shield of Faith Church.

     The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the Adena Hospice for their kindness and the care given to Bernice.

     Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Samuel Lore officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. – 12 Noon prior to the service.
