Carol S. Heiss

     Carol S. Heiss, 79, of Ray, Ohio, passed 12:30 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2023 at her residence following an extended illness.

     She was born September 14, 1943, in Burke, KY to the late Ollie and Mary Gillum Rucker.  On October 21, 1985, she married Charles McCoy Heiss who died November 2, 2001. 

     Surviving are a daughter, Susan A. (Tim) Leach, of Ray, OH; a granddaughter, Chelsey (Zach) Downs, of Chillicothe; great grandsons, Zane and Max; a brother, James A. Rucker, of Ray, OH; sisters, Penny Reighart, of Charlottesville, VA and Pam (Dave Kordis) Rucker, of Cincinnati, OH; special cousin, Diane Lewis and numerous nieces and nephews.   In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, David Hess; a sister, Phyllis Birch; a sister-in-law, Pat Rucker; and a brother-in-law, Ray Reighart.

     Carol had worked at the former Trippie’s Restaurant and had attended the former Grace Fellowship Church.  She was a hard worker, enjoyed feeding and watching birds.  Above all, she loved her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

     The family would like to extended a special “thank you” to the staff of Adena Hospice, including, Kara, Sheri, Yvonne, Shelly, Christy and Vickie for the wonderful care give to Carol and compassion shown to our family during this time.  In addition, Susan would like to also thank her co-workers for all their love and support during her mom’s illness.   

     In keeping with her wishes, a private family memorial will be held at a later date.  Family and friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023.  Burial of her cremains will be on her family’s property near Gillum Lake in Ray, OH.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Adena Hospice c/o The Adena Health Foundation 9 South Paint Street Chillicothe, OH 45601.
