Chester A. “Chet” Hewitt, 66, of Chillicothe, passed at 4:36 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025 in Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born July 26, 1959, in Ross County, to the late Thomas J. Hewitt and Judith A. Johnson Caplinger. On November 24, 1984, he married the former Lisa M. Ellis who passed February 23, 2025.
Surviving are a son, Matthew C. (Sara) Hewitt, of Columbus; grandson, Obie Hewitt; brothers, Thomas L. (Rebecca) Hewitt, of Chillicothe and Scott Hewitt, of Long Beach, CA; a step brother, Rob (Cindy) Caplinger, of Circleville; Bobbi (Scott) LaGard and Theresa (Wesley) Damron, Tammy (Scott) Wilbanks, all of Chillicothe and Tinna Hewitt, of Dayton; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and step father, Robert Caplinger. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Ellen Marie Ellis.
In 2019, Chet retired from DuPont where he had worked for many years. He was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Chet was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoyed drafting and designing building all over the world. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a positive attitude and a big heart. Chet loved to spend time with his family and going on his annual trip to the Circleville Pumpkin Show with his friends. He will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Roy Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
