Chester "Smitty" E. Smith

   Chester E. “Smitty” Smith, Jr., 75, of Chillicothe, passed 6:37 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at his residence following an extended illness.

   He was born July 16, 1949 in Chillicothe to the late Chester E. “Red” and Marjurie Betts Smith.  On August 6, 1972 he married Charlene Joan “Sherry” Burton who preceded him September 21, 2007.

   Surviving are sons, Chad E. Smith and Curtis E. Smith, both of Chillicothe; grandson, Christian Smith, of Chillicothe; brother, Ernie Smith, of Jackson; sisters, Chestine Walk, of Waverly, Nancy Decker and Bonnie Davis, both of Chillicothe; many nieces and nephews.  He predeceased by brother, Jeff Smith; and sisters, Rose and Becky.

   Chester retired from the Chillicothe City Schools where he worked in the maintenance department. 

   His grandson, Christian, was his pride and joy.  Chester enjoyed cars from the 1950’s and 60’s, Rock n Roll and his McDonald’s coffee group.  He was the best dad and grandpa anyone could ask for.

   Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 at the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Mark Gray officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. prior to the service on Friday.
