Daniel Lee McInturf

Daniel Lee McInturf, 74, of Chillicothe passed 5:19 am Wednesday October 25, 2023 at Adena Regional Medical Center following and extended illness.

He was born May 20, 1949 in Stewart, Ohio.  Dan was the son of the late D.C. and Mary Geddes McInturf and was the 11th child in a family of 13.  Dan loved to read, was an avid sports fan, a lover of country and gospel music and had a genuine compassion for his dogs.

Dan was married to Patricia Schrake of Chillicothe for 40 years.  Their marriage began in Athens Ohio in 1983.  After Dan’s retirement, the two moved to Chillicothe, where Patricia was a longtime teacher in the Ross County Schools.

Dan was a graduate of Athens High School class of 1968 .   Upon graduation he began working for the Ohio University mail department where his uncanny ability to remember numbers and faces and his quirky personality endeared him to many.

Dan retired from OU after 30 years of service.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, an infant bother Gary, a sister Karen Hook Biggers, a sister Phyllis Jean Brown, a brother Dr. Roger McInturf, two nephews, Thomas and Robb, and an infant niece, Kelly Rae.

He is survived by his brothers: John (Shirley Ann) of Ada, Ohio, William (Shirley) of Greenville, Pa. Robert (Sue) of New Richmond, Ohio., Don (Lynda)of Athens, Patrick (Janet) of Ada, Ohio and an adopted brother, Keldon Day (Gayle) of Cincinnati.

His surviving sisters are:  Dolores (Rex) Klinger, Ada, Ohio., Marj (Dave)Helm, Ada, Ohio., Linda (Doug) Williams, Athens, Ohio and sister-in-law Patricia McInturf of Ashland, Ohio.

Dan leaves behind 30 nieces and nephews, 43 great nieces and nephews, 4 great- great nieces and 3 great-great nephews.

A private family memorial will be held at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Ross County Humane Society,  2308 Lick Run Road, Chillicothe, Ohio  45601.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services.  Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
