David Baum Obituary

     David Page Baum, 66, of Matthews, NC, died 1:55 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 in Novant Presbyterian Medical Center, Charlotte, NC following a brief illness.

     He was born June 3, 1955, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to Marshall and Eliza Griffith Baum. 

     Surviving are his father, Marshall Baum, of Chillicothe; a sister, Lisa Rudnick, of Chillicothe; a brother, Gregory “Gar” Baum; and a nephew, Kyle Rudnick, all of Chillicothe; and his faithful companions, his cats, especially, PiePie.  He was predeceased by his mother, Eliza Baum who died March 4, 2021.  In addition to his mother, he lost the love of his life, Gloria Beth Petrie who died June 16, 2021, a nephew, Timothy Rudnick; and a brother-in-law, Edward C. Rudnick. 

     David served in and was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force.  He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.  David nearly completed his Associates Degree in Landscaping from Foothill College in San Jose, California and worked as a professional landscaper.  He was a journeyman plumber at PC Jackson Plumbing in Charlotte, NC and prior to that was a “Former Peon” at PC Godfrey Inc. from October 2003 through 2018. He served as the president of Los Gatos AFSCME Local 101 from 1988 to 1989, enjoyed golfing and was a huge Ohio State Buckeye, San Francisco 49ers and San Jose Sharks fan.  Also, David, portrayed a Shawnee Indian, in the very first season of the famous outdoor drama in Chillicothe, Ohio, “Tecumseh”.  Mostly, his family was proud that many years ago, he was able to save a childhood friend from drowning in flash flood waters near their childhood home. 

     Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2022 in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the service time on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
