DeWayne Lee Barnes, 60, died May 10, 2021 from complications of cancer. He was born on November 12, 1960, in Phoenix, Arizona, to the late Carlson and Catherine Ilene Gilbert Barnes. He was raised by Carlson and Loretta Barnes.
He is survived by his wife, Robin K. (Sanders) Barnes; mother, Loretta Barnes; brother, Billy Ray (Melissa) Barnes; sisters, Mary Barnes and Melissie (Missy) Barnes; son, Brandon Sanders (31); daughters, Danah Bartle (39), Jennifer (Brandon) Wheelen (37) and Cheyanne Barnes (17); grandchildren, Zoei Williamson, Seth Wheelen, Natalie Sanders, Greyson Sanders and many very special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his father, Carlson Lee Barnes Senior; mother, Catherine Ilene Barnes; and a brother, Carlson Lee Barnes, Jr.
DeWayne was very proud to have served in the military with the United States Army’s First Calvary Division in Texas and Germany. He was an accomplished musician and played in the Sidewinder Band with his brothers in Phoenix, Arizona. The family relocated to Ohio in 1997. He was a talented handyman, singer, guitar and harmonica player as well as an astound mushroom hunter but most of all he was an Ohio State Buckeye fan.
DeWayne was married to the love of his life for 24 years. He had his own entourage (his 3 canine friends) which included Lady, Carlee and Jingle Bells. He enjoyed his dogs and his dogs loved him. He was the best friend anyone could ever have and if you got the chance to be-friend him you were truly blessed.
DeWayne, loved his family and embarrassing his nephews and nieces. He was a good father, pop-pop, uncle, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, friend and husband and he will be truly missed.
DeWayne was saved on November 21, 2014 and would tell you that from that day on, “I have lived my best through God ever since”. He left a note in his bible with these words to his friends and family, “Be Happy, I’m going to Heaven”!
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 in the Jefferson Avenue CCCU, 770 Jefferson Avenue, Chillicothe, Ohio with Pastor Mark Clendaniel and Pastor Dan Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME, 121 W. 2nd Street, Chillicothe, Ohio from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Covid guidelines and masks are requested.
