Delila A. Cochenour, 79, of Lancaster, Ohio, fell asleep in Jesus at 11:16 a.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Select Specialty Hospital in Newark. On March 4, she suffered a respiratory arrest caused by a mucus plug and was resuscitated after 30 minutes, but she never recovered. She now rests in the blessed hope of Christ’s soon and glorious return.
Delila was born on October 24, 1946, in Chillicothe, to the late Woodrow and Bernice Brigner Fortner. On April 16, 1967, she married Paul Daniel “Dan” Cochenour, who survives.
She is also survived by her sons Michael Cochenour, of Sarepta, LA; Matthew (Melissa) Cochenour, of Groveport; and Mark (Dan Spatholt) Cochenour, of Pataskala; her grandchildren David, Clinton, Amber, Gabriel, Carly, Dustin, and Taylor; several great grandchildren; her faithful friends Chrissy Rummel and Bill Ryan; her brother James (Brenda) Fortner, of Columbus; her sisters Bonnie Essman, of New Albany, and Karen (Melvin) Hatch, of Westerville; a cousin Judy Blanton of Chillicothe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Angela Marie Cochenour.
Delila was a member of the Westerville Seventh day Adventist Church and a proud 1964 graduate of Mount Vernon Academy (MVA).
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Chillicothe Seventh day Adventist Church, 510 Metzger Ave., Chillicothe, Ohio. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery, 12202 U.S. Route 50, Bourneville, Ohio. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Following the burial, the family plans to gather at Golden Corral in Chillicothe.
During the past six years of her life, Delila bravely endured dialysis due to kidney failure caused by diabetes. She fought hard for the people she loved and cherished every visit, every prayer, and every smile shared in the nursing home. The Worthington SDA Church family supported her faithfully through cards, gifts, visits, prayers, and anointing. The family extends special thanks to Marchita and Gary Gilson, Evelyn Weisner, Shannon Cammick, and many others whose kindness meant so much.
Though she sleeps now, her story is not over. In God’s perfect timing, when Jesus returns, Dee will awaken with her bright smile restored, whole and joyful, ready to embrace her loved ones once more.
Arrangements are under the direction of WARE FUNERAL HOME, Chillicothe.
