Dorcie Jean Henderson Jones, 96, of Chillicothe passed peacefully at her residence at 1:27 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2026 following an extended illness.
She was born September 13, 1929 in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Dorsey and Marguerite Deubel Henderson. On January 16, 1954, she married Charles William Jones who passed May 22, 2018.
Surviving are a son, Mark Jones, of Upper Arlington, OH; daughter, Michelle Sadlak, of Chillicothe, OH, Leslie (Angie Beck) Jones, of Murphy, NC and Emily McLaughlin, of Chagrin Falls, OH; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Marilyn Hessler and Viola Lightle.
Dorcie and her two sisters grew up in Chillicothe, where their father worked as a pharmacist. They spent much of their summers on the family farm, near Milford, Ohio. After graduating from high school, she attended Ohio University Chillicothe campus, where she met her future husband, Charles “Bill” Jones, and received her associate degree. After Bill graduated, they moved to Columbus, where Bill started his career with Nationwide Insurance. Dorcie eventually resumed her career, first working at Columbia Heights Methodist Church. She later went on to work for the Secret Service, which she truly enjoyed. Nationwide moved them to several locations, but after retirement they returned to Chillicothe, bought a small farm, and started a perennial flower business. They enjoyed being back amongst old friends and family in Chillicothe and were long-term members of the Chillicothe Country Club. They thrived and traveled and enjoyed their family. They were members of the Concord Methodist Church. Bill and Dorcie were widely recognized in the community and fondly greeted everywhere they went.
A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 5th, 2026 at Concord Methodist Church with Pastor Aaron Hines officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the church’s cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
