Dr. Ernest Elsworth Littler, Jr. Obituary

     Dr. Ernest Elsworth Littler, Jr., 94, of Chillicothe, passed at 4:18 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Glades of NCR in Chillicothe following a full life.

     He was born September 21, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Ernest Elsworth Sr. and Viola Gray Littler.  On June 22, 1957, he married the love of his life, Clarice J. Hevel, who passed August 4, 2022. 

     Surviving are children, Kris (Mary) Littler, Diane (Bill) Neal, Marc (Janet) Littler, all of Chillicothe, Michele Corley, of Greenwood, SC and Gregory (Julie) Littler, of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Aaron Littler, of Chillicothe, Seth (Melissa Roberts) Littler, of Marysville, Hannah (Tyler) Morrissey, of Upper Arlington, Jacob Littler, of Chillicothe, Marie (Brandon) Gill, of Chillicothe, Patrick Neal, of Columbus, Jon (Dan) Neal-Mowery, of Ocklawaha, FL, Kyle (Sarah) Littler, of Chillicothe, Kevin (Alyssa) Littler, of Chillicothe, Jennifer (Jeremy) Hughes, of Chillicothe, Matthew (Lacey) Derexson, of Frankfort, Andrew Derexson, of Greenwood, SC, Jimmy (Karie Davis) Corley, of Chillicothe, Joshua Corely, of Southridge, WV, Leslie Corley, Greenwood, SC, Tiffani Littler, Zachary Littler, Brittani Littler, all of Phoenix; 13 great grandchildren; a niece, Tami (Jeff) Brashears, of Dayton; and a nephew, Todd (Tina) Williamson, of Huber Heights, OH.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ronnie Littler.

     Ernest served in the Special Services (SS) of the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Dayton and his Doctorate Degree in Education from the University of Cincinnati.  He spent a lifetime in Education beginning in Dayton City School District where he worked as a Teacher, Principal and District Administrator and later became Superintendent for Ada Exempted Village School District.  Locally, Ernest worked at Union Scioto School District as Curriculum Director and Elementary School Principal.  He also worked for the Ohio Department of Education as Director of Government Surplus Properties.  He later worked for the Arizona Department of Education as the Director of GSA and Western International University as a Professor in Phoenix, AZ. 

     The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Dr. Kunz and the staff at NCR Hospice for the wonderful care given to our dad and compassion shown to our family during this time.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 in St. Mary’s Church with Msgr. Frank Lane, Celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery where there will be military graveside rites will be conducted by the McClain Cadet Corps.  Family and friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
