Obituary
Edith G. Oakes, 90, of Londonderry, passed 12:10 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2023 at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born May 24, 1932, in Rocky Branch, Kentucky, to the late Calvin and Drucilla Barker Stapleton. On December 27, 1952, she married Robert M. Oakes who passed June 27, 2018.
Surviving are sons, Ronald (Geri) Oakes and Anthony Oakes, both of Londonderry; 4 grandchildren, Joey (Sarah), Rhonda, Robert and Rachel; 5 great grandsons, Sammy, Carl, Zayden, Dominick and Matthew; a sister, Daisy Sue (Steve) Crabtree; brothers, Emmett Stapleton; sisters-in-law, Jewel Gillette and Hazel Martin; a brother-in-law, Richard Ratcliff; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; a daughter, Debra Lucas; and a sister, Shirley Ratcliff.
Edith was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, needlepoint and sewing. She attended the Pleasant Valley Trinity Church.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Sarah Oakes for the loving care she gave to Edith during her illness.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Jim Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
