Evelyn "Granny" Hill Obituary

     Evelyn Hill, 84, of Chillicothe, died 2:30 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 in Westmoreland Place following an extended illness.

     She was born November 9, 1935, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Clarence Raeford and Edna Petree Mock. 

     Surviving are sons, James Mack, of Chillicothe and Maurice (Lynzi) Hill, of Detroit, MI; a “son”, James Brown, of Indianapolis; she also considered herself a mother to many other children, whom affectionately referred to her as “Granny”, including, Tamika Allen, of Detroit, MI, Iris Nicole Jackson, of Detroit, MI and Travis Velarde, of Chillicothe; a host of grandchildren including, Deontae Hill, Nicholas Hill, Micah Hill, Danica Hill, Cherlika (Jarrod) Johnson, James Jr. (Arainya) Mack, Leonard Mack, Tawana Trice, Katrina Thomas, Jailyn Mack, Sharell Anderson, Quiyanna Anderson, Darian Gonz; several great grandchildren; sisters, Judy Mock, of Detroit, MI and Wanda (Kenith) Alderson, of Jonesboro, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Gilbert Mock.

    Evelyn was a member of Citadel of Praise Church in Detroit.  She worked at Sumby Hospital, in Detroit, as a Medical Transcriptionist.  Evelyn was a foster parent for numerous children over the years and received many awards and accolades for her devotion to those children.  She was fondly known to her neighborhood as “Granny”.  She enjoyed cooking and often provided meals to her “neighborhood kids” and their families.  Every Sunday it was dinner at “Granny’s”.  Even in the midst of her illness, she continued to provide nurturing care and spiritual love to those around her.

     Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME, Chillicothe, Ohio with Rev. Dr. Olie Burton officiating.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Detroit, Michigan.  Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
