Gretchen Thompson Obituary

     Gretchen L. Thompson, 96, of Chillicothe, died 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at Valley View Care Center.

     She was born January 11, 1925, in Pickaway County, Ohio, to the late Clyde and Amy Cook Sampsill.  On September 5, 1942, she married Jack D. Thompson who died April 16, 1976. 

     Surviving are children, Donna (Robert) Sheridan, of Kingston, Gloria (Samuel) Anderson, of Chillicothe, and Douglas (Carla) Thompson, of Circleville; a daughter-in-law, Ratana Thompson, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Tracey (Brandon Grubb) Eyre, Robert (Tammy) Sheridan, Nicholas Anderson, Susan (John) Richter, Mandy Thompson, Chelsea Thompson, Aaron Moss, Lauren (Travis) Timmons, Meghan Moss, Ryan Moss, Amy (Ronnie Church) Thompson, Jack D. (Nicky) Thompson, Sherri Robinson, David (Annie) Lively, Terresa (Ronnie) Everhart, Brenda Lively, Raymond (Daniell) Lively and a granddaughter-in-law, Robin Lively; numerous great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Sampsill, of Ashville; sisters, Ruby Merritt, of Parkerburg, WV and Joan Justice, of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a son, Jack Dee Thompson; a sister, Inez Rowell; a brother, Clyde “Bud” Sampsill; and a grandson, Larry Lively 

     Gretchen retired from Sonny’s Sports Plus where she had worked as a seamstress. In addition to being an excellent seamstress, she loved making beautiful quilts for her family. Gretchen loved babies and children, blue birds and cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds Baseball Team.

     The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Embassy of Valley View Care Center and those from Pro-Medica Hospice for the excellent care and kindness shown to Mom and her family.

     Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2021 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Chaplian George Vastine officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery.  Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 11 to 1 prior to the service on Friday. The family request that mask be worn.
