Harold Bennett Obituary

Harold W. Bennett, 93, of Frankfort, passed 10:20 a.m. Sunday, August 7, 2022 in the Adena Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

     He was born October 5, 1928, in Yellowbud, Ohio, to the late Charles D. and Mary Etta Shasteen Bennett.  On November 15, 1947, he married, his wife of 74 years, the former Norma Jean Donahue who passed March 3, 2022.

     Surviving are a son, Kit Kelly (Kelly) Bennett, of Frankfort; a daughter-in-law, Connie Bennett, of Apple Valley, CA; grandchildren, Matthew (Holly) Bennett, of Xenia, Shana (Phillip) Bennett, Sarah (Richard) Garrison, both of Frankfort and Harold V. (Stephanie) Bennett, of Seattle, WA; great grandchildren, Layne, Courtney, Logan, Hope, Mary, Morgan and Caleb; and numerous nieces and nephews including special nephews, Dick Crawford and Marvin Bennett.  He was predeceased by a son, Wayne E. Bennett; sisters, Genevieve Bennett, Betty Crawford and Jeanette Norman; and brothers, Albert, George, Leonard, Henry, Willard and Robert. 

     He went to school 8 years at Yellowbud and then Kingston-Union High School and graduated in the Class of 1946.  He was a veteran square dance caller for over 50 years, a Union Township Clerk and Trustee for 54 years, a charter member of the Union Township Fire Department, where he and Paul King went to Xenia to purchase the first fire truck #1102.  Also, he served on the Pleasant Valley Regional Sewer District Board for over 7 years, helped form the Ross County Water Company, served for over 40 years as chairperson for the Ross County Senior Citizens, worked for many years with the Area on Aging District 7 as President of the Advisory Council and also served on many other boards.  In 1990, Harold retired from Country Mark Co-Op where he had worked for 35 years.  He enjoyed fishing with his nephews Tom and Marvin Bennett on Lake Erie and Crappie fishing with Marvin.  He loved to travel with his wife, Norma Jean and camping a various campgrounds. 

     The family wishes to extend a special “thank you” to the Palliative Care Team at Adena and Shannon Keaton for the loving care given to Harold and compassion shown to our family during this time.

    Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME.  Burial will follow in Springbank Cemetery.  Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
