Henry L. “Harry” Barlage, Sr., 81, of Chillicothe passed at 4:45 p.m., Sunday June 12, 2022 at Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born July 31, 1940 to the late Robert M. and Alberta (Keating) Barlage. On June 17, 1962 he married his love, Carolyn Sue Oates, in St. Mary Rectory by Father Edward Fairchild.
Surviving are children, Henry, Jr. (Lisa) Barlage of Chillicothe, Deborah (Bruce) Oney of London, Cheryl Barlage of Chillicothe, Jennifer (Ricky) Mark of Frankfort; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Elizabeth and Sara Oney, Rachel Barlage and Brianna Mark; brother, F. Michael Barlage of New York; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverly and Bill Tyo; sisters-in-law, D. Jean Oates, Wanda Oates, Beulah “Sis” Oates all of Chillicothe; brother-in-law, Larry Oates of Oberlin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Deen and Alice Oates of Texas; numerous special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by mother, Alberta Keating Barlage; father and step-mother, Robert and Carolyn Schaefer Barlage; brothers, Martin, George and William Barlage; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Henry graduated from Huntington High School in 1958. He served his country in the United States Navy. He served aboard on the U.S.S. Cotton and U.S.S. Yosemite. Following the Navy, he went to work at Chilpaco. He retired from Columbus Southern Power/American Electric Power as a lineman. Henry played softball for the electric company, St. Peter Church, Houser’s Garage and Hernstein until the age of 65. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church since 1963. He was also a member of the AEP Retirees Club and the local IBEW.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022 at St. Peter Church with Fr. Jacob Sinnett, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, June 15 from 5 – 8 p.m.
