Jack L. Eblin, Jr Obituary

Jack Lee Eblin, Jr. passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 66.

Jack was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on April 25, 1959 to Jack L. Eblin, Sr. and Dazel (Bowling) Eblin. An only child, he grew up in Chillicothe and attended Chillicothe High School.  Jack had a long career in factory work with many years in his final position at Showa Aluminum where he retired at the age of 62.  A man of Christian faith, Jack was saved around the age of 30.

Jack married Rhonda Rout in 1998, and they shared 23 years together.  Jack deeply valued his life with her and his family.  He enjoyed mushroom hunting and was a devoted sports fan, supporting the Cincinnati Reds, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the LA Lakers, and the Cleveland Browns.  He had a particular admiration for Kobe Bryant and Pete Rose.

Jack had a deep passion for the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He loved hunting with his son Steven and was absolutely dedicated to fishing for shovelhead catfish in the Scioto River and Paint Creek.  Nothing captured his attention on the water like the sport of seeking shovelhead catfish. He always maintained that everything else was, in his words, "just bait."  He cherished countless memories on the water with Steven, Rhonda, and his closest friends. A firm believer in conservation, Jack always practiced and advocated for "catch and release."  His love of catfishing ran deep.  In the 1980s, he was featured in Ohio Game & Fishing magazine for a record-length catch and became widely respected in the catfishing community for his expertise, particularly when it came to pursuing flatheads along the banks of the Scioto River.  Known by the nickname "Flathunter," Jack was an active and well-regarded member of the Brotherhood of Catfishermen, GoFishOhio, and various other online fishing groups and forums.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Jack L. Eblin, Sr., and mother, Dazel Eblin.  He is survived by his oldest son Steven Eblin of Circleville, Ohio; his stepson Cody George, and his youngest son Logan Anthony Eblin, both of Chillicothe, Ohio; and three beloved grandchildren, Clayton, Faith, and Noelle Eblin.  He is also survived by his wife and special companion, Rhonda Eblin of Chillicothe, and special caregiver, Connie Curtis, along with many cherished family members and friends.  Above all else, Jack loved his family.

A memorial service date is to be determined.  Those who wish to support the family may make a donation to Ware Funeral Home on behalf of the Eblin family, to assist with funeral expenses and help give Jack the respectful farewell he deserves.
