Jack Lee James, 84, of Londonderry, passed away 6:15 a.m. Sunday, April 11, 2021 at his home peacefully surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.
He was born March 14, 1937, in Pike County, to the late William Clay and Vicie Ruth Adams James. On December 10, 1960, he married the love of his life, the former Marcia Pittenger who survives.
Also surviving are children, William A. “Bill” James, of Kingston and Kimberly K. Sexton, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Crissie L. Gibson, Jack J. (Geneva) Woods, Brett A. James and Alley (Corey) Ray; 12 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sharon Hill; a brother-in-law, John (Barbi) Pittenger; several nieces and nephews; and all of his race family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step-father, Wilbert Graves; brothers, Ronald and Jerry James; a sister-in-law, Betty James; a brother-in-law, Donald R. Hill; and son-in-law, Dow Sexton.
Jack attended CHS and lettered in Football where he went on to play in the Navy. Jack served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1958 as a Damage Controlman 3 aboard the USS Valley Forge CVS-45. He was also a boxer while he served.
After 36 years of service, Jack retired from the Mead Corporation as an Electrician on August 25, 1995.
Jack was an avid race fan, mechanic, engine builder and was a Hall of Fame Inductee of the Atomic Speedway. Jack lived his life to the fullest from the drop of the green flag to the final checkered flag that led him to his eternal home.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Chaplain Bruce Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Caldwell Cemetery. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
