James S Curtis

     James S. “Jim” Curtis, 81, of Gallipolis, formerly of Chillicothe, passed at 10:46 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024 in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, following an extended illness.

     He was born April 22, 1943, in Mason County, WV, to the late Sam and Lulu Sutman Curtis.  On August 6, 2022, he married the former Nancy Roberts who survives. 

     Also surviving are children, Stacey Reed, Tabitha Curtis, both of Frankfort and James “Jimmy” (Kayela Slate) Curtis, of Dresden, Kathleen Butler, and Jay Stonerock, both of Chillicothe; step children, Sheri (Chris) Shepperd, of Gainesville, FL, Brian Martin, of Radcliff, KY, Steve (Lisa) Legier, of Montacello, FL and David (Cora) Shepperd, of Brandenburg, KY; grandchildren, Krystal Detty, Katie Pariscoff, Michele Detty, Jordon Curtis, Ashley Curtis, Alayna Butler, Bella Butler, and Kyiah Smith; seven great-grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; brothers, Mike (Sue) Bush, of South Charleston, WV and Gary Todd Bush, of Gallipolis; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Judge Johnnie Reynolds, of Mason, WV and Harry Butler, of Chillicothe.  He was predeceased by former wife, Mary Curtis; sons, Sam Curtis and John Curtis; a brother, Homer Curtis, and sisters, Lola Curtis, Marlin “Hazel” Yost and Virginia Magers; daughter-in-law, Missy McMahon.

     Jim was a member of the Bulaville Christian Church in Gallipolis.  He retired from the Frankfort, Ohio Bosch plant where he had worked for many years.  Jim was a loving husband and father.  He was always willing to open up his door to anyone who needed his help.  Jim loved his church family and missed them whenever he wasn’t able to attend services.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

     A graveside committal service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024 in Greenlawn Cemetery with Pastor Bob Hood officiating.  Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Bob Hood officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.  He will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
