Jan W. Kear, 90, entered the gates of glory on August 27, 2025. She was born October 17, 1934 in Whitewood, Virginia, but called Chillicothe her home from age 12. She graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1953 and married Don G. Kear in 1956, who passed in 2007.
Jan was the advertising manager for M. Schachne & Sons for many years. In 1972 she became a licensed real estate agent/Realtor and was owner and CEO of Kear Realty, Inc. until her retirement in 2022.
Jan was a passionate Christian and shared the gospel every chance she could, both vocally and by her actions. As a true servant of the Lord, she lived modestly so she could help others. She was passionate about her family, community, and those in need. She was always available for prayer. Her positive outlook and anticipation of Heaven inspired those around her. Her compassion, kindness, and generosity touched and changed many lives. She was a blessing to us all.
In addition to her husband, Jan was preceded in death by her parents Nell M. (Keen) and William R. Wright of Chillicothe, OH and her father A.B. Jewell, sisters Polly Anne Jewell and Luanne Pugh, and brother Victor Jewell all of VA.
She is survived by her sister Judy (Mike) Conklin of Greenfield, OH, sister Dolores Warner of Chillicothe, OH. Brother James (Kathy) Wright of Kingston, OH, sister Nancy (Wade) Lowe of Cedar Bluff, VA, sister Bucky McConnell of Tazewell, VA, brother Artemus Bernard Jewell, Jr. of Columbia Falls, ME, sister-in-law Jeanne (Norm) Dellner of Dublin, OH, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
The family would like to thank everyone who contributed to Jan’s care, both professionally and with prayer, including Dr. Robert Violette, National Church Residences Southern Ohio nurses and hospice, Sarah Mathews, the Kear Realty family, Jan’s prayer partners, and many dear family and friends.
Per Jan’s wishes, there will be no public services, but a life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. All are invited to privately celebrate Jan’s memory in you own special ways. Private graveside services were held at Grandview Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Hines officiating. In lieu of flowers, you can honor Jan’s legacy of giving by making a donation to your charity of choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME. You may sign her online register at www.warefh.com
