Janet E. McGarvey, 74, of Chillicothe, died very unexpectedly 12:54 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2022 at her residence, her farm that she loved dearly.
She was born May 17, 1947, in Chillicothe, to the late Ira H. Frazier and Mary E. Bobo Frazier Loy. On June 4, 1966, she married the love of her life, Darrell L. McGarvey who predeceased her on July 16, 2012.
Janet is survived by her children, Becky L. (Michael) Neighbors, of Chillicothe and Brandon L. (Jennifer) McGarvey, of Frankfort; grandchildren, Brittany A. (Ryan) Ahlbrand, Jaclyn D. (Christopher) Groh, Bridgette R. (Jarod) Hood, Zachary L. (Kirstie Waller) Polen, Brookelyn E. (Seth) Schumaker and Bailey M. McGarvey; great grandchildren, Annabeth F. Groh, Cora A. Ahlbrand, Hendrix G. Groh, Brynlee R. Hood, Lorelai J. Schumaker, Welleslee B. Groh and Jarrett M. Hood (due in May); step sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Tackett, of Piketon, Diane Reed, of South Point, OH, Cheri Reed, of Circleville, OH; a step brother-in-law, Donald (Dee) Reed, of Marion, OH; several nieces and nephews who she was very close too; and a son-in-law, Victor (Rebecca Masters) Polen. She was predeceased by a daughter, Beth Ann McGarvey Polen; infant sons, Robert L. McGarvey; twins, Brett A. and Brent A. McGarvey; mother-in-law and step father-in-law, Beulah M. and William Reed; father-in-law and step mother-in-law, James E. and Margaret McGarvey; a brother, Steven Frazier; a sister, Virginia M. Frazier Davis; brothers-in-law, Jimmie D. McGarvey, Richard (Dick) McGarvey, James Reed and Roy Reed; nephews, Johnny and Jeff McGarvey; a sister-in-law, Marjorie McGarvey; step brother-in-law, Jack Tackett; and step father, John Loy.
Janet loved her farm, camping and riding horses with her beloved husband, Darrell and friends. She and Darrell owned and operated McGarvey’s Western Shop. Janet was well known and never met a stranger. All she wanted her whole life was a husband and a family. She succeeded, and her proudest accomplishments were her loving marriage of over 46 years and her much loved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Janet was a former 4-H advisor, member of the Mt. Logan Riding Club and American Legion Post 757. She retired after 22 years with the Kmart Corporation and then retired after 11 years from the Chillicothe City School System where she worked in the Cafeteria. Janet attended Mt. Tabor Community Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
