John Thomas Toohey III was born March 25, 1955 and died November 22, 2025.
John was born in Ticonderoga, New York in 1955 to the late John Thomas Toohey Jr. and Sandra Rice Toohey. John was educated at Crown Point High School before graduating from the SUNY Canton in the field of engineering. He later worked at numerous nuclear power plants before moving to Chillicothe, Ohio where he met his loving wife Kathy Fisher Toohey.
John was the proud father of 4 children Josh (Lindsay) Toohey of Columbus, Ohio, Andrew (Abby) Toohey of Waverly, Ohio, Elizabeth (Ian) Potthast of Peekskill, New York, and Benjamin (Kylee) Toohey of Chillicothe, Ohio.
John took great pride in being a parent and grandfather to his beloved grandchildren Charlotte, Ryan, William, Grace, Darren, Deacon, Ellaree, and Olivia. He could be found spending time with his grandchildren each weekend attending numerous sporting events, dance recitals, and playing on the floor with trains.
John was preceded in death by his father John Thomas Toohey Jr. and is survived by his mother Sandra Toohey, and his loving sister Jennifer (Richard) Vacca of Carver, Massachusetts.
John was a devoted member of the Open Door Ministry congregation and helped to lay the foundation of the church from its beginning in 1991. He spoke about his love for Jesus with everyone he met and changed the lives of many by sharing his faith.
John was the proud owner of the K&J cabinet business. He loved designing kitchens and creating beautiful spaces. He even designed the kitchens of all 4 children.
John courageously fought Lymphoma for a year and said that he would never give up. He fought a long and strenuous battle, but he ultimately won the fight when he was able to rejoice with his Lord and Savior.
The family will receive loved ones at Open Door Church on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held at Open Door Church on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
John was a devoted Christian and would love for people to attend and worship the Lord as we lay him to rest. In memoriam of John, the family would appreciate donations to be made in his name to Lymphoma Research Foundation.
