Loretta (Butterbaugh) Frost Obituary

Loretta Jean (Butterbaugh) Frost of Wadsworth, OH, at the age of eighty-five, was granted her desire to continue her eternal, spiritual life with Jesus in heaven on July 30, 2024. Loretta lost her battle with cancer after first being diagnosed in 2018. She has been a true fighter, through her strength in prayer, and love of life and family.

Loretta was affectionately known as “Bunny” by family and friends, her nickname was given to her as a child by her Grandmother Bolles from a character in a radio show her grandmother enjoyed.

Loretta was born July 19, 1939, and raised by the late Charles (Bunk) and Virginia Butterbaugh in Chillicothe, Ohio. Loretta graduated from Southeastern High School near Chillicothe and had numerous long-time friends from her High School days. She completed her collegiate studies at Ohio University with a degree in Education. Loretta went on to complete a teaching career of 26 years.

Loretta was preceded in death by her son-in-law Michael Lautenschleger of Wadsworth, brother-in-law Glenn Flannery, brother-in-law Ralph Lawrence, and sister-in-law Maureen Frost.

Her married life, as well as her career in education began shortly after meeting her soon-to-be husband, Richard Frost. Loretta and Richard were both new college graduates and starting their first day as teachers in the Lakewood School District. It was during their first teaching positions in Hebron, OH that they met, fell in love, and were married on June 30, 1962, in Chillicothe, Ohio. Loretta’s hometown was Chillicothe and Richard is from Clairton, PA. Richard has one sister Judy, and one brother Jerry. Included in both sides of their family they have five nieces Debbie, Carrie, Becky, Susan, Carolyn and one nephew, Daniel.

Over the years, both educators moved to various communities, as Richards professional growth led him to his new opportunities following his Doctorate, as a School Superintendent. Loretta continued to teach business, typing, shorthand, and computer classes in various school systems. Through the years Loretta developed a kinship with several colleagues that would last a lifetime.

Following Loretta and Richard’s marriage, they raised three beautiful and intelligent daughters; Kristine Pohlman, Aileen Jones, and Laura Lautenschleger. Their grandchildren are Andrew Pohlman, Audra (Pohlman) Allegri, Benton Pohlman, and Hannah (Pohlman) Hahn, Colin and Chloe Baker and Elise and Evan Lautenschleger. Granddaughter, Audra, and her husband Joshua Allegri are also the proud Parents of triplets, Caleb, Delaney, and Sutton Rose Allegri (Loretta and Richard’s great grandchildren).

Loretta has always loved nurturing children both professionally and personally. During Loretta’s career she received many thank you notes from students who appreciated Loretta’s personal attention and caring nature which helped them succeed in their studies. Loretta, also known as Mema or Mimi by her grandchildren, would spend every opportunity to be with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Loretta had a genuine love of animals. She cared for numerous pets in her lifetime. Most recently her favorite four-legged baby, her Labradoodle-Denali. Loretta enjoyed live music, theater and traveling. Throughout their 62 years of marriage, Loretta and Richard enjoyed many cross-country trips, including Hawaii, Alaska, travel out of the country to Europe, visiting Ireland multiple times, and she always loved getting her toes in the sand by traveling with her immediate and extended family to the beach. She was an avid reader and participated in Women’s Christian groups. Loretta was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church where she worshipped and found spiritual support for herself and her family. Loretta was such a kind, giving, gentle natured woman. Her Daughters would refer to her as an “Angel” who certainly earned her wings. May she soar to heaven and comfortably be at rest under his wings.

The family would like to give special thanks to Pastor Jane Piehl of Sharon Center United Methodist Church for her continued spiritual support to Loretta during her extended illness with cancer; as well as, to the team at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Palliative and Hospice Care for their tremendous care of Loretta in her final days. Family and friends are being received at the Ware Funeral Home in Chillicothe, OH on August 3, 2024, at 11:00 am for family and 12:00 noon for public.
