Martha B. Gaston

Martha B. Gaston, 91, of Chillicothe, passed at 5:02 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2025 at her residence following an extended illness.

     She was born May 2, 1934, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late Ernest B. and Thelma G. Goodman Brundige.  On August 16, 1957, she married John C. Gaston who survives.

     Also surviving are a daughter, Joan G. (Doug) Manchester, of Chillicothe; sons, John B. (Sue) Gaston, of Pawleys Island, SC and Jim Gaston, of California, MD; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Corey) Hayden and Max (Julie) Gaston; great grandchildren, Paxton, Reed, Callie and Sawyer Hayden; and several extended family members including special nieces, Martha Jane and Beth; a special nephew, Dan; and a special great niece, Sara Kate.  She was predeceased by brother, Dan Brundige and a treasured daughter-in-law, Christin Gaston.

     Martha was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Deacon and helped with the church’s Children’s Clothing Bank.  She graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Miami University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, and her Master’s in Education from Mount Saint Joseph’s University.  Martha retired from Chillicothe City Schools where she had worked for 21 years and had volunteered at Adena Regional Medical Center for over 20 years.  Martha was a member of the Chillicothe Country Club for 67 years where she enjoyed playing Bridge and will be sadly missed by her fellow players.

     The family would like to thank Dr. John Seidensticker and the Staff of Adena Hospice as well as her daily caregivers for making her last few months more comfortable.    

     A celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Dr. Jason T. Link officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday. 

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the 1st Presbyterian Church – Attn: Children’s Clothing Bank 13 Mead Drive Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
