Mary E. Oakes

     Mary E. Oakes, 85, formerly of Chillicothe, passed at 1:35 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025 in the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

     She was born May 18, 1940, in Ross County, to the late Frank and Irene Hampton Penwell. 

     Surviving are her children, Wendall “Pete” Oakes, of Pinellas Park, FL, Sheila (Larry) Ging, of Washington CH and Rodney (Nanette) Oakes, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Heather Edwards, Elizabeth Redman, Nikki Gallagher, Hillary Cox and Savannah Oakes; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Julie) Penwell, of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Carrie Cox.

     Mary had worked as a Nurses Aid at Deiber Nursing Home for many years.

     A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2025 in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Bobby Seymour officiating.  There will be no visitation.  Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
