Mireille Joyce Grady McKell Obituary

Mireille Joyce Grady McKell died Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the age of 86 after enduring the effects of a stroke she suffered in 2015. She is now enjoying a resurrected life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

 

Mireille was born January 25, 1934 to Harry Hamilton Grady and Mary Loiry Grady, both of whom preceded her in death, losing her mother when she was 19 years old. She was also preceded in death by her brother Malcom Hulbert “Bud” Grady.

 

Mireille is survived by her husband Thomas McKell to whom she was married 61 years. 

 

She is survived by her son William McKell, his wife Peggy Conaway McKell and their daughters Kristen, Lauren, Meghan, Caitlyn, Shaelyn and Jaidyn McKell. 

 

She is survived by her daughter Nancy McKell Gomez, her husband Edward Gomez and their children Thomas Gomez (and his wife Tara Brown Gomez and their young daughters Evelyn, Aurora and Sybil), Sylvia Gomez MacKenzie (and her husband Andrew MacKenzie and their young children Sophia and Thomas) and Robert Gomez. 

 

She is survived by her daughter Mary Lois “Molly” McKell, who inherited her outgoing personality and who brightens the lives of all she meets.

 

She is survived by her son Edward McKell, his wife Kimberly Melvin McKell and their daughters Elizabeth, Abigayle and Leah McKell. 

 

She is also survived by her sister Jane (John) Wilson and her sister-in-law Connie (Bill) Stoker as well as many loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends of her children who called her “Mom.” She will be dearly missed by her special friends and caregivers Judy Sands, Barbara Jones, Janet Monroe, Sarah Wicker and Sarah Neal. 

 

After graduating Chillicothe High School in 1952, Mireille worked for Columbia Gas. After her marriage, she dedicated her life to suppporting her husband, raising her children and serving her community. While raising her children, she was active in Junior Civic League, serving as President. After her daughter Molly was born with Down Syndrome, she served on the committee to fund and build the Pioneer Center. She then served many years on the local Developmental Disabilities board. Mireille was an active member of the Chillicothe arts community as proprietor of The Fine Print, selling limited edition prints, and as a member of the board for the Pump House Center for the Arts. She served many years on the hospital women’s board and was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church. 

 

Mireille’s life will be honored by the family at a private grave-side service and will eventually be publicly celebrated at a memorial service at Trinity Church to be held once it is safe and appropriate to do so.
