Patricia Ann Ware, 72, died of natural causes in her home in Seattle, Washington on January 24, 2025. Patricia (Pat) was the oldest child of Margaret Patricia Ann Spettel Ware and Col. Thomas Allen Ware Jr. of Chillicothe, Ohio.
Growing up in a military family, Pat had many moves in her life. As a youth she lived in eight U.S. states and twice in West Germany. Pat fostered a deep curiosity about and genuine respect for different cultures and world regions, and as an adult she spent extended periods of time in Israel, Turkey, and France, as well as traveling in Scotland with her sister Carolyn.
Pat was gifted with a natural ear for foreign languages and continued to study French and Hebrew until her death. She also had a strong affinity for Cajun and Creole culture and enjoyed living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 18 months prior to moving to Seattle in late 2024. Pat was an avid folk dancer for many years—with a special fondness for traditional Turkish and Balkan dancing—and she retained her appreciation for dancing even when she was unable to participate due to health issues.
After working as a legal assistant and a paralegal editor in the Washington, D.C. area, Pat joined the Bureau of National Affairs as an environmental reporter in 1990, retiring from that position in 2015. During her time at BNA, she received a handful of awards for her reporting.
Pat is survived by her three siblings—Carolyn Ware (Baton Rouge), Ginny Ware/Moulton (Seattle), and Tom Ware (Seattle)—as well as her brother-in-law Russell Moulton and her niece Rachael Ann Moulton. Also surviving Pat are two aunts and many cousins on both the Ware and Spettel sides of her family.
A memorial service for Pat will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the Ware Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Ohio. Pat’s ashes will be buried near her beloved parents in Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe. May she rest in peace.
