Robert Earl Hawkins was born April 4, 1936, to William Cornelius Childers Hawkins and Ida Gladys Schuster Hawkins, in Greenland, Ohio, the ninth of eleven children. He passed on March 21, 2026, two weeks shy of his ninetieth birthday. Robert was predeceased by his wife, Donna Hawkins and siblings Lee, Charles, Roy, Ralph, Mary, Sylvia, George, Clyde, Emmitt, and Glenn.
Robert graduated from Clarksburg high school in 1954 where he was a standout basketball player. He proudly served in the US Army, stationed in Frankfort, Germany. His service continued as a member of the American Legion and a member the military Honor Guard. He retired from DuPont and then retired as an instructor at the Pickaway Ross joint vocational school. He touched the lives of so many young people there.
Our Dad could fix anything, build anything from scratch, and all the while listening to old time country, gospel and bluegrass. He rose to the top of any organization he joined because everyone liked and respected him. Robert and his brother - life long best friend - Emmitt were a pair. We’re pretty sure we never heard the full extent of their ornery adventures. Emmitt’s passing left such a void in his life.
Our Dad parented with patience, wisdom, pride, and steadfast love. We are the luckiest to call him ours.
Robert is survived by daughters Laney Hawkins (Don Fisher) and Kelly Hawkins; grandchildren Mallory Covert, Seth Covert, Madison Ray, Tad Fisher, Jed Fisher, Tara Ray and great granddaughter Elliott Covert.
Robert leaves behind his chosen brother Tom Abram, beloved caregiver and chosen daughter, Charlene Roberts, and dear caregiver Kay Austin.
Robert will be missed by so many as he never knew a stranger. His was a life well lived with integrity, modesty, compassion, humor and love.
Upon his modest request, there are no services. Arrangements for the family are being handled by WARE FUNERAL HOME.
