Roger E. Swaney, 91, of Chillicothe, Ohio, passed at 7:53 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2025 in Chillicothe Post Acute following an extended illness.
He was born July 31, 1934, in Ross County, Ohio, to the late Orville and Anna Allen Swaney. On March 1, 1959, he married the former Ruthie D. Peecher who passed December 28, 2016.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra (Rick) Congrove; a son, Doug (Brenda) Swaney, both of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Shane (Brittany) Congrove, Tyler (Kendi) Congrove, Caleb Congrove, and Drew (Chasity) Swaney; great grandchildren, Savannah M. Swaney, Zachariah R. Swaney, Harper E. Congrove, Sawyer J. Congrove and Elizabeth L. Congrove; and many friends, including Ryan Skeens and Ryan Peters. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Shirley Swaney.
Roger was a member of the Richmond Dale United Methodist Church and had served in the United States Army. He retired from the Mead Corporation where he had worked in Security. Roger had served as a Jefferson Township Trustee for many years and had also served for Jefferson Township Fire Department and EMS, where he had served as Fire Chief. He had been a volunteer with the township for over 60 years. Roger and his wife, Ruthie, were 4-H Advisors for Jefferson Livestock 4-H Club for many years.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor John Evans Sr. and Pastor John Evans II officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
