Thomas Lenox Herrnstein

      Thomas Lenox Herrnstein, 81, of Chillicothe, died 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at his residence following an extended illness.

     He was born October 13, 1940 in Chillicothe, to the late David F. Herrnstein and Mary I. Dimity Herrnstein. 

     Surviving are daughters, Mary (Mark) McCombs, of Upper Arlington and Sarah (Chris) Pummel, of Chillicothe; grandsons, Andrew and James McCombs; granddaughters, Brooke and Holly Pummel; great granddaughter, Isabella Jane DeMint; nephews Tom Herrnstein and Andrew Herrnstein; cousins, Carolyn Riky, Martha Laughon, Philip Herrnstein and Henry Herrnstein; and lifelong friends Kezia Vanmeter Sproat and Stephen Butt.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Frederick Herrnstein, James Herrnstein and Joseph Herrnstein. 

     Tom graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1958 and The Ohio State University in 1962 with a degree in history.  He retired in 2015 after a 40-year career in real estate.  He was a member of the Archaeological Society of Ohio and was an avid Native American artifact collector.  He could carry on a conversation about any historical or current event and Ohio State Football.

     The family would like to thank National Church Residence for their compassion over the past several months.

    In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the National Church Residence Hospice at 681 E. 3rd St., Waverly, Ohio 45690.

     A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, January 24, 2022 at Grandview Cemetery with Pastor Rick Hartley officiating.  There will be no public calling hours.  Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.

     A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
