Vera J. Smith

     Vera J. Smith, 89, of Chillicothe, died 4:28 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022 at her residence following a brief illness.

     She was born May 3, 1932, in Cynthiana, OH to the late Norman G. and Gladys M. Puckett Foraker.  On December 5, 1960, she married James R. Smith who died February 1, 1982. 

     Surviving are daughters, Pamela K. (Gary Payne) Polen, of Chillicothe, Vickie Payne, of Waverly and Teresa J. (Randy “Bo”) Grubb, of Glen Allen, Virginia; grandchildren, Crystal Park, Lance Polen, Jr., Jason B. (Terri) and Kyle R. (Tara) Payne, Travis (Sarah) Grubb, and Tim, Chrissie and Sara Stephens; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and a special friend and neighbor, Gregory Minser.  She was predeceased by a son, Don Stephens, a granddaughter, Mandy Jo Payne; brothers, Richard, Charles and Ralph Foraker; and sisters, Norma Foraker and Iris Sterling.

     Vera was a former employee of the U.S. Shoe Corporation.  She was a member of the F.O.E. Aeries 600, Loyal Order of Moose Chapter 2024, VFW 108 Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary Posts 62 and 757.

     The family would like to express a special “thank you” to the staff of Heartland Hospice of Lucasville for the care given to Vera and compassion shown to our family during this time.

     Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2022 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Bud Lytle officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
