Virginia Hempstead Obituary

Virginia P. Hempstead, 96, of Chillicothe, passed at 12:03 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2022 at the National Church Residence following an extended illness.

She was born June 21, 1926 in Houlton, Maine to Fred and Abbie Weeks

Dwyer.  On March 15, 1946 she married Emmitt H. Hempstead, Sr., who preceded her in death on April 11, 1996.

Surviving are children, Emmitt (Vicki) Hempstead, Jr., Fred (Judy) Hempstead, Daniel Hempstead (Rita Wallace) all of Chillicothe, Loretta (Wilford) Haddox and Laura (John) Puckett of Conway, S.C.; brother, Alton Dwyer of Southwest, FL; 10 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a grandson, Nicholas Hempstead; sisters, Mary Erickson and Geraldine Smart; brother Dr. Philip Dwyer.

Virginia attended Tabernacle Baptist Church.  She was a member of American Legion #62 Auxiliary and Ross County Senior Citizens. 

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday November 4, 2022 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Aaron Hines officiating.  Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens.  Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. the day of the service.
