Wilmer E. Hill, 95, passed Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at his residence.
He was born January 22, 1929, in Ray, Ohio, to the late Jacob and Gayle Barnett Hill. On June 23, 1951, he married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, the former Audrey F. Speirs.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Hill; daughters, Judy D. (Richard) Gehring and Heidi Jo Hill; grandchildren, Kayce Swepston and Klinton Hill; great grandchildren, Tenesee Swepston, Lakota Swepston and Renee Hill; and a great great grandson, Tenesee Swepston. He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey W. Hill.
Wilmer served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served from 1951 to 1953 in the 17th Infantry Regiment Heavy Tank Company, 7th Infantry Division in N. Korea. Wilmer operated Sherman Tank Model M4A3E8. He wears the Korean Service Metal with 2 Campaign Stars, the UN Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a member of the First Church of God. In 1991, Wilmer retired from the Mead Corporation where he had worked in the Wood Yard for 34 years. He was a member of U.P.I.U. Local 731. Wilmer was an avid motorcyclist having ridden in all the continental United States along with his papoose, Audrey.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2024 in Londonderry Cemetery with Kim Graves officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends can visit with the family at Londonderry Cemetery one hour prior to the graveside service on Monday.
